Two New AION Models In Contention For International Accolades

• World Car of the Year names AION’s V and UT models in 2027 longlist
• AION UT confirmed as a candidate for Car of the Year award 2027

Slough, 25 September 2026 – AION has been nominated for international car of the year prizes for the very first time, and not just once, but with three nominations. The AION V SUV and the AION UT supermini are both in the running for the 2027 World Car of the Year (WCOTY), and the AION UT is also on the judges' lists for the 2027 Car of the Year (COTY) awards, Europe’s top car trophy.

WCOTY began in 2003 and is judged by over 100 jurors representing 33 international countries. To be eligible for the top accolade, vehicles must be on sale in at least two continents, and production must exceed 10,000 units per year.

Both the AION V and AION UT are contenders for the 2027 WCOTY award. The jurors will test drive each model over the coming months before voting commences at the end of December. The winners will be announced at the New York International Auto Show on March 24, 2027.

COTY is decided by a panel of 60 leading journalists from 23 European countries, with 39 models under consideration for 2027. To be eligible, each vehicle must be on sale in five or more European markets by the end of 2026. The AION model competing for the 2027 COTY award, AION UT, arrived in UK dealers this month as part of its launch across Europe.

A period of testing will help the judges slim the list down to just seven finalists ahead of the awards ceremony at the Brussels Motor Show on January 8, 2027.
